Box Score DENVER - No. 3 Metro State used a 31-9 run in the second half to pull away from Western State for an 86-73 win on Saturday night at the Auraria Event Center. The Roadrunners improved to 16-1 overall and 13-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with their 13th consecutive win, while WSCU fell to 1-16 and 1-12 in the RMAC. The 13-game winning streak is tied for the fifth-longest in school history.
Mitch McCarron (Brisbane, Australia/Genesis Christian College) scored 21 of his career-high 29 points in the second half. He shot 11-of-14 from the floor and 6-of-7 at the line, while adding five rebounds and two assists.
Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) poured in 19 points and had four assists.
Nicholas Kay (Tamworth, Australia/Newington College) had 10 points and six rebounds.
Will Sinclair (Lilydale, Australia/Lilydale Heights College) scored nine and
Jamal McClerkin (Van Nuys, Calif./Chaminade College Prep) and
Raul Delgado (Chihuahua, Mexico/Springville (Utah) H.S.) had eight each to round out the top scorers.
Metro State never trailed in the first half, but the Mountaineers hung around as Metro State's largest lead was 11 points and went into halftime with a 35-26 lead.
WSCU came out strong in the second half and used a 15-2 run to lead 48-44. The Roadrunners countered with a 31-9 run, building a 75-57 lead with 4:14 left. Six different players scored during the run.
Metro State shot 53.4 percent in the game after hitting 58.6 percent in the second half.
Jordan Adams led Western State with 24 points and Mason Biddle added 20.
The Roadrunners will host Chadron State at 7 p.m. on Friday.
