Box Score SILVER CITY, N.M. - Metro State blew a halftime lead for the second night in a row as the visiting Roadrunners fell 52-44 at Western New Mexico. MSU Denver fell to 3-8 overall and 2-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while WNMU improved to 6-7 and 3-5.
It was the first loss in school history to Western New Mexico for the Roadrunners.
MSU Denver committed 29 turnovers, its highest total in a game since 2009. The Roadrunners shot 37 percent and held the Mustangs to just 29.5 percent shooting. MSU Denver also outrebounded WNMU 46-to-31. It was the first time since 1999 the Roadrunners have lost a game when holding their opponent under 30 percent shooting.
Tai Jensen (Troy, Idaho/Troy H.S.) led Metro State with 10 points off the bench, shooting 4-of-7 and pulling down seven rebounds.
Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.) had a career-high 15 rebounds, but scored just nine points on 3-of-10 shooting.
Cassie Lambrecht (Colorado Springs/Golden H.S.) had eight points, six rebounds and four assists.
Fawn Brady (Grand Junction, Colo./Grand Junction H.S.) hit both of her shot attempts and scored six points off the bench.
Leading 20-17 at half, the Roadrunners built their lead to five points at 29-24 with 15:42 left on a 3-pointer by Jensen. However, the Mustangs outscored Metro State 28-15 the rest of the way.
Ashley Mitchell led Western N.M. with 15 points.
Metro State returns home to host Colorado Christian at 5 p.m. on Friday.
