Metro State receives Pepsi Center Jumbotron

DENVER - Metro State's basketball and volleyball facility has received a major upgrade as Pepsi Center donated its Sony Jumbotron to the university.  The Roadrunners now have a 16-by-10-foot video board located behind the south baseline in the Auraria Event Center.

"The addition of the Jumbotron to the Auraria Event Center has transformed our home court," said Joan McDermott, Director of Athletics.  "We are truly grateful for the generous donation from Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.  None of this would be possible without them.  This is an example of the great relationship we've had with KSE and we look forward to continuing that in the future. Once again, their generosity shows their commitment to the Denver community."

The center-hung video board was replaced over the summer in Pepsi Center.  The project to move the Jumbotron across Auraria Parkway to the Roadrunners took several months as power and support capabilities had to be upgraded in the Auraria Event Center to accommodate the video board.  A 30-foot steel beam was installed in the gym in order to bear the weight of the video board.  Davis Partnership served as the project's architect with Saunders Construction as the contractor.

"Pepsi Center was pleased to assist Metro State in upgrading its video boards on campus," said Dave Jolette, Senior Vice President of Venue Operations at Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.  "With the installation of a new scoreboard at Pepsi Center during the summer of 2013, the repurposing of Pepsi Center's Sony Jumbotron video boards became a possibility.  Pepsi Center was happy to donate the equipment and technical assistance to the Metro State project.  This was a great example of creative thinking and collaboration between Metro State and Pepsi Center to improve the campus and local community."

In addition to the Jumbotron, Metro State also received the backlit signage from Pepsi Center.  The Jumbotron was running for the Metro State basketball conference home openers on Dec. 13 and will offer replay capabilities as the season continues.
