DENVER - No. 25 Metropolitan State University of Denver swept Chadron State 25-21, 25-13, 25-15 on Friday night at the Auraria Event Center. The Roadrunners improved to 14-3 overall and 8-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CSC fell to 3-14 and 2-7.
Savannah Garcia (Platteville, Colo./Valley H.S.) was excellent defensively with 21 digs and was perfect in serve-receive in 11 attempts. She helped hold the Eagles to a .063 hitting percentage in the match.
Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) and
Summer Greager (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian H.S.) each had 10 digs.
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) dished out 44 assists and also had four total blocks at her setter position, helping MSU Denver hit .259 in the match.
Michaela Smith (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) led the team offensively with 11 kills.
Abbie Noland (Martinez, Calif./Campolindo H.S.) had a season-high nine and hit .318, while
Kylee Hoagland (Mead, Colo./Skyline H.S.) chipped in with eight, hitting .571.
MSU Denver held the Eagles to a minus-.138 hitting percentage in the first set.
The Roadrunners scored 10 out of 11 points during one stretch in the second set to build an 18-9 lead.
The third set was dominated by a .353 hitting percentage by the Roadrunners.
MSU Denver will host Black Hills State at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
