Men's basketball: Balanced scoring leads Roadrunners to win over CSC

DENVER - No.14/24 Metropolitan State University of Denver earned its third straight win with a 72-51 victory over Chadron State Saturday night at the Auraria Event Center.  The Roadrunners improve to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Eagles drop to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the RMAC.
 
Mitch McCarron (Brisbane, Australia/Genesis Christian College) shot 52 percent from the field scoring a game high 21 points. He also contributed six assists and had a career high in blocks with three.
 
Jourdon Hunter (Denver, Colo./Kennedy H.S.) shot 6-of-7 and scored 17 points, while burying four 3-pointers. Dalante Dunklin (San Diego, Calif./Francis W. Parker H.S.) added a career high with eight assists to go along with 10 points. Nicholas Kay (Tamworth, Australia/Newington College) helped contribute in the scoring with 14 points. Will Sinclair (Lilydale, Australia/Lilydale Heights College) poured in a season-high nine points, making 5-of-6 at the line, to go with seven rebounds.
    
McCarron shot 50 percent from the field and led all scorers in the first half with 11 to along with four assists. Hunter and Sinclair both contributed with seven points each. MSU Denver used a 20-7 run in the middle of the first half to jump out to a 26-13 lead with seven minutes to go. The Roadrunners shot 50 percent in the first half, while the Eagles shot 30 percent to lead 35-21 at the break.
 
MSU Denver shot 54 percent in the second half including going 3-for-5 from 3-point range, while CSC shot 38 percent from the field.
 
Christopher Smith and Kendrick Holliman provided the offense for the Eagles with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
 
MSU Denver returns to action from the holiday break Friday, Jan. 2, as they take on New Mexico Highlands at 7 p.m.
