Box Score DENVER - No. 1 Metro State cruised to a 80-65 win over Regis University as head coach
Derrick Clark earned his 100th career victory on Saturday night. The Roadrunners improved to 21-1 overall and 18-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with their 18th straight win, while Regis fell to 7-16 and 4-14.
Clark passed Mike Dunlap as the fastest coach in school history to 100 wins, reaching the milestone in just 119 games. Dunlap achieved that total in 121 games.
Mitch McCarron (Brisbane, Australia/Genesis Christian College) led the Roadrunners with 24 points and had seven rebounds. He made a career-high 12-of-13 free throws and shot 6-of-10 from the floor.
Nicholas Kay (Tamworth, Australia/Newington College) poured in 20 points and had 11 rebounds for his ninth career double-double.
Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) came off the bench for the first time and scored nine points on 3-of-4 shooting.
Harrison Goodrick (Sydney, Australia/St. Joseph's College Hunter's Hill) added seven points and six rebounds.
MSU Denver outrebounded Regis 35-to-23 and won the turnover battled 10-to-13.
Metro State forced nine turnovers and held Regis to 38.1 percent shooting in the first half to lead 33-22 at the break. McCarron had 12 points in the first half.
Regis kept the margin around 10 points for the rest of the game, with Metro State's largest lead of the second half being 14 points.
Corbin Green led the Rangers with 17 points.
Metro State will host Fort Lewis at 7 p.m. on Friday.
