Women's basketball: Five-game winning streak ends with cold night from the floor

Box Score DENVER - Metro State shot just 32.3 percent as visiting Regis earned a 72-61 win on Saturday night. The Roadrunners dropped to 11-11 overall and 10-8 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, snapping their five-game winning streak. Regis improved to 13-9 and 11-7 in the RMAC.

Deni Jacobs (Plains, Kan./Southwestern Heights H.S.) had her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, hitting 5-of-9 from the floor and 4-of-4 at the free throw line. Fawn Brady (Grand Junction, Colo./Grand Junction H.S.) also scored 14 points and had eight rebounds and three steals. Kya DeGarmo (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado H.S.) and Cassie Lambrecht (Colorado Springs/Golden H.S.) joined those two in double figures in scoring with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Lambrecht added a game-high five assists.

The Roadrunners committed just nine turnovers, but the cold shooting cost them.

Regis shot 52 percent in the first half, but the Roadrunners kept the score even at 36-36 at the break after shooting 42.9 percent.

But the Rangers used a 21-4 run to build a 17-point lead with 5:22 remaining at 65-48. They held MSU Denver to just 24.3 percent shooting the second half.

Metro State will host Fort Lewis at 5 p.m. on Friday.
