Box Score DENVER - Metro State held off a late Adams State rally for a 62-49 win on Saturday at the Auraria Event Center. The Roadrunners improved to 12-12 overall and 12-9 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. ASU fell to 9-16 and 5-15 in the RMAC.
Kya DeGarmo (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado H.S.) led the Roadrunners with 12 points in what will likely be the final home game of her career. She shot 3-of-5 from 3-point range and added five assists. Sophomore
Elena Velasquez (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia H.S.) provided 11 points, six rebounds and six assists off the bench. Seniors
Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.) and
Tai Jensen (Troy, Idaho/Troy H.S.) each had nine points. The team's fourth senior,
Cassie Lambrecht (Colorado Springs/Golden H.S.), had seven points and four assists.
MSU Denver shot 45.5 percent from the floor and committed just nine turnovers, while outrebounding the Grizzlies 30-to-25.
The Roadrunners played a flawless first half offensively, committing zero turnovers, and led 37-25 at halftime after shooting 42.9 percent behind eight points from Velasquez.
The Grizzlies used a 12-0 run to cut into a 19-point deficit and trim Metro State's lead to 51-44 with 5:16 remaining. DeGarmo halted the run, hitting a jumper from the top of the key with 4:38 left. MSU Denver quickly built its lead back to double digits.
Metro State will wrap up the regular season on the road next weekend at Colorado State-Pueblo and UC-Colorado Springs.
