Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. - Metro State put together perhaps its most impressive win of the season Friday, winning 62-50 at Colorado State-Pueblo. The Roadrunners improved to 13-12 overall and 12-9 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CSUP, which has already locked up the No. 2 spot in the upcoming RMAC Shootout, dropped to 20-7 overall and 17-4 in the RMAC.
A stellar defensive performance limited the ThunderWolves to 30 percent shooting on their home floor, including just 4-of-24 (.167) from 3-point range. Metro State also outrebounded CSUP 36-to-31.
Elena Velasquez (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia H.S.) scored a game-high 14 points off the bench, hitting 5-of-6 from the floor, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.) shot 6-of-10 and scored 12 points, while
Cassie Lambrecht (Colorado Springs/Golden H.S.) had 10 points.
Kya DeGarmo (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado H.S.) led the team with four assists and also scored seven points.
Deni Jacobs (Plains, Kan./Southwestern Heights H.S.) and
Tai Jensen (Troy, Idaho/Troy H.S.) each pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
The Roadrunners shot 46.9 percent in the game and made 11-of-12 at the free throw line.
Metro State jumped out to a 31-16 lead at halftime after holding the ThunderWolves to 24 percent shooting in the first half. The 16 points were the fewest for a Roadrunners opponent this season.
Metro State led by as many as 18 points in the second half.
