Women's basketball: Winning streak hits five behind DeGarmo's career night

Box Score LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Kya DeGarmo (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado H.S.) scored a career-high 22 points as Metro State extended its winning streak to five games with an 81-68 victory at Colorado Christian on Saturday night. The Roadrunners improved to 11-10 overall and 10-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CCU fell to 11-10 and 9-8.

DeGarmo hit 8-of-11 from the floor, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range. She also had four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Cassie Lambrecht (Colorado Springs/Golden H.S.) added 19 points, making three 3-pointers, and had eight rebounds. Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.) provided 15 points and eight rebounds, getting to the line 12 times and converting nine of those attempts. Elena Velasquez (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia H.S.) made 7-of-8 free throws to score 12 points off the bench.

The Roadrunners struggled offensively for much of the first half, trailing by as many as seven points, but a late run pulled MSU Denver even at 37-37 at halftime despite shooting just 35.3 percent.

A 24-9 run over 11 minutes in the second half gave Metro State a 63-50 lead with 7:34 remaining. The Cougars never got closer than eight points after that.

Metro State shot 48 percent in the second half to finish at 40.7 percent for the game, including 10-of-23 (.435) from the outside. The Roadrunners held CCU to just 37.9 percent shooting, including 4-of-14 (.286) from the outside.

Kate Louthan led the Cougars with 15 points.

Metro State will host Regis University at 5 p.m. next Saturday.
