Box Score SAN DIEGO - Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) and
Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) combined for 25 kills as Metropolitan State University of Denver earned a 17-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-19 win over host school Point Loma on Friday night at the Seaside Invitational in San Diego. The Roadrunners improved to 2-0 with the win, the fouth straight season they have opened with a pair of wins. PLNU dropped to 0-1.
Quijano had 13 kills and hit .387 with just one error in 31 attack attempts. She also had three solo blocks and two block assists for five total to lead the team. Haun had 12 kills and 10 digs for her 12th career double-double.
Kylee Hoagland (Mead, Colo./Skyline H.S.) provided eight kills and five blocks.
The offense centered around setter
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.), who had 45 set assists and helped the team hit .252. She also had eight digs.
Defensively,
Savannah Garcia (Platteville, Colo./Valley H.S.) led the way with 18 digs and
Summer Greager (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian H.S.) had 12.
Point Loma hit .439 in the first set, but the Roadrunners cooled them the rest of the way as MSU Denver held the Sea Lions to just a .117 hitting percentage the rest of the way.
MSU Denver will face Cal Stae Monterey Bay at 11:15 a.m. PT on Saturday and then Fresno Pacific at 3:30 p.m.
