Salt Lake City – The Metropolitan State University of Denver volleyball team kept its winning streak alive at ten in a row Friday night defeating Westminster College 3-1. The Roadrunners advance to 13-8 overall, and 10-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Westminster College drops to 5-15 overall and 2-10 in the RMAC with the loss.
The Roadrunners were down early in the first set and fell short losing 25-19. The Griffins came out strong at home with a .319 hitting percentage while holding the Roadrunners to .136 in the set.
Ryan Hoerdemann (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe H.S.) and
Michaela Smith (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) both registered three kills.
The Roadrunners came back strong in set two and built a 13-7 lead on Griffins. Westminster could not recover losing the second set 25-20. Through two sets,
Summer Greager (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian H.S.) led the Roadrunners with ten kills.
Set three was a tight set early with both teams trading off points. MSU Denver went one a five point rally to build a 15-10 lead. The Roadrunners outscored Westminster 10-4 to close out the set winning 25-14.
MSU Denver carried the momentum from set three into set four with a quick 6-0 lead and went on to win the set 25-17.
The Roadrunners finished the match with four players with double-digit kills. Smith lead the team with 15 kills and Greager's tallied a total of 14 kills.
The Roadrunners travel to Colorado Mesa on Saturday, Oct. 24. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
