Denver – The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's soccer team tied with CSU-Pueblo in 2-2 on Sunday afternoon. MSU Denver now has a record of 7-6-5 overall and 4-2-5 in the RMAC. CSU-Pueblo now holds a record of 8-7-3 overall and 4-5-2 in the RMAC.
The Roadrunners went up early, with freshman
Reigna Banks (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield H.S.) scoring her fifth goal of the season in the sixth minute of the match. Banks scored off of a corner kick from senior
McKinzie Rieber (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge H.S.). Rieber was able to tally a goal of her own scoring in the 25th minute to make the score 2-0. She scored from inside the box off of assists from Banks and freshmen
Korena Perales (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest H.S.). Reiber's goal was her fourth goal this season. The Roadrunners would take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The Thunderwolves fired back in the second half, with freshmen Brianna Garcia scoring her first goal of the season in the 69th minute off a crossing pass from junior Sandra Grimaldo. The pair hooked up again in the 89th minute, as Grimaldo assisted Garcia with a pass inside the box, allowing Garcia to score the equalizer. The second goal by Garcia would prove to be the final goal in the match, as the Roadrunners and Thunderwolves finished both overtime periods still locked at 2-2.
The tie solidified the Roadrunners as the No. 5 seed in the RMAC tournament. They will play at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at Regis University.
