Denver - The Metropolitan State University of Denver volleyball team defeated UCCS 3-1 on Tuesday night. The Roadrunners move on to the semifinals of the RMAC Tournament with the win.
Junior
Michaela Smith (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) led the Roadrunners in kills with 22. She was followed by senior
Summer Greager (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian H.S.) with 18 and sophomore
Ryan Hoerdemann (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe H.S.) with 14. MSU Denver hit .290 for the match compared to UCCS's .197.
The first set was a close battle with nine ties in the set. Junior
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) had 13 assists in the set. The Roadrunners were able to come from behind in the end scoring the final three points of the set and winning 26-24.
MSU Denver and UCCS continued their battle in the second set. The set was tied 11 times. Smith had 15 kills through two sets. UCCS was able to prevail in the set winning 25-23.
The Roadrunners finished the match strong in both the third and fourth sets. MSU Denver out hit the Mountain Lines in both sets hitting .273 to .105 and .361 to .206, respectively.
The win was the first for MSU Denver over UCCS this season.
The Roadrunners will move on to play the No. 2 seed Colorado Mesa in Golden, Colo. on Friday Nov. 20.
