Denver – The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team defeated Regis University 69-54 at the Auraria Event Center Saturday night. The Roadrunners improved to 5-6 overall and 3-2 in RMAC. The Rangers fell to 4-7 and 2-3 in RMAC.
MSU Denver was led in scoring by sophomore
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College). Ohrdorf scored 20 points and had five rebounds in the game. Sophomore
Hannah Stipanovich (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton H.S.) also added 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Roadrunners.
The first two quarters were back-and-forth between the two teams. MSU Denver trailed until sophomore
J'Nae Squires-Horton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek H.S.) hit a three-point basket to tie the game at 15-15 with 6:30 left in the second quarter. MSU Denver gained its first lead at 23-22 when junior
Luisa Tago (Medford, Ore./South Medford H.S.) made a layup with 2:29 left in the half. MSU Denver went into the locker room with the lead, 27-24. The Roadrunners forced nine turnovers and scored eight points off those turnovers compared to only two points by the Rangers.
The Roadrunners continued to build on their lead out of the break. The lead became 16 points when freshman
Jonalyn Wittwer (Fall Creek, Wis./Fall Creek H.S.) drove to the hoop for a layup to make the score 45-29. The Roadrunners had their biggest lead of the night at 20 when Ohrdorf made a three-point basket with 7:33 left in the fourth quarter.
The Rangers were led by Caresse Williams who had 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Roadrunners will return to action on January 1 to take on Adams State in Alamosa, Colorado at 5 p.m.
