Women's basketball: Roadrunners' season ends with 75-70 loss to UCCS

DENVER - Metropolitan State University of Denver suffered a season-ending loss with a 75-70 setback to University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Saturday night at the Auraria Events Center. Following the loss, the Roadrunners drop to 13-13 overall on the season, 10-12 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. With the win the Mountain Lions go to 23-5 overall, 18-4 in the RMAC.
 
Jenae Paine (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City H.S.) led all scorers with 22 points including 6-of-10 from the 3-point line and three assists. Brittany Curl (Absarokee, Mont./Absarokee H.S.) had 14 points to go along with seven rebounds. Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) had 10 points. Hannah Stipanovich (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton H.S.) had 11 points she also contributed with nine rebounds, four of them offensive. Deni Jacobs (Plains, Kan./Southwestern Heights H.S.) closed out her MSU Denver career with eight points and four rebounds.  
 
Ohrdorf and Paine led the Roadrunners in scoring with six points each in the first half. Stipanovich had four rebounds.  MSU Denver had nine offensive rebounds in the first half and shot 28 percent from the field including seven second-chance points, while the Mountain Lions shot 36 percent from to field to take a 33-27 lead at the half.
 
UCCS jumped on MSU Denver early in the second half to take a 46-38 lead. The Roadrunners then used a 13-4 run to take its first lead since early in the first half at 49-48. UCCS then held steady an eight point lead throughout most of the second half. Paine hit a three with a minute left to cut the Mountain Lions lead to five. Ohrdorf hit both of her free throws to cut the lead to three with 30 seconds left. After UCCS hit 1-of-2 free throws Paine again hit another three to shrink the lead to one. The Mountain Lions then hit their last four free throws to secure the victory.
 
Jessika Kienitz led UCCS in scoring with 20 points.
