DENVER - Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) collected four hits in five at bats on Sunday as Metropolitan State University of Denver earned a four-game weekend sweep over Western New Mexico, winning 11-3 (5 innings) and 8-4 on Sunday at The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver. The Roadrunners improved to 16-6 overall and 8-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while WNMU dropped to 10-17 and 7-9.
Oury went 2-for-3 with a stolen base in the first game. The Roadrunners scored seven times in the second inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by
Sarena Espinoza (Corona, Calif./Corona Centennial H.S.).
Lani Redmond (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol H.S.) drove in a run in the third with a base hit and MSU Denver tacked on three more in the bottom of the fifth to end the game, highlighted by an RBI triple by
Annika Anderson (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.).
Colissa Bakovich (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) and Espinoza also had two hits in the first game.
Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) allowed two earned runs in five innings.
Oury was 2-for-2 in Game 2, as was
Kaylynn Harmon (Erie, Colo./Erie H.S.).
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first as
Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) and Harmon hit back-to-back doubles in the inning. They scored four more times in the fourth, using RBI singles by Bakovich, Brew and Towner.
Nicole Larsen (Murrieta, Calif./Bloomington H.S.) allowed three earned runs in seven innings and did not walk a batter.
MSU Denver will play at Colorado School of Mines next weekend.
