DENVER - Metropolitan State University of Denver got a strong pitching performance on Sunday as the visiting Roadrunners won 7-4 at Regis University to take three out of four games in the weekend series. MSU Denver improved to 12-13 overall and 7-9 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while Regis dropped to 11-17 and 6-12.
Nick Hammett (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield H.S.) allowed two earned runs in seven innings and
Cameron Stroup (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) pitched two shutout innings in relief to earn his first career save.
Offensively,
Jeff Levett (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.),
Hunter Donaldson (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) and
Alex Walker (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) each had two hits.
The Roadrunners led 7-0 before Regis got on the scoreboard, scoring two in the first, third and fourth innings, and adding a single run in the second. Donaldson and
Marcus Bean (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) each had run-scoring singles in the first inning. Donaldson also had an RBI double in the fourth.
MSU Denver will host New Mexico Highlands in a four-game series beginning on Thursday at The Regency Athletic Complex.
