DENVER - Metropolitan State University of Denver was swept in a pair of top-25 matchups on Saturday at the Colorado Premier Challenge, falling 25-15, 27-25, 25-19 to No. 7 Central Missouri and 25-16, 27-25, 25-17 to No. 25 West Florida. The Roadrunners fell to 2-6 with the losses.
Against the Jennies,
Michaela Smith (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) had a team-high 12 kills and hit .241.
Vasati Fiatoa (Las Vegas, Nev./Bonanza H.S.) hit .500 with seven kills. But the Roadrunners were held to a .158 hitting percentage as a team.
Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) added 12 digs.
MSU Denver led 18-13 in the second set, but a late UCM rally game the Jennies the set at 27-25.
Freshman
Santaisha Sturges (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) led the Roadrunners with nine kills against UWF, while adding 10 digs defensively. Smith had eight kills. Haun had a team-high 11 digs, while setter Brandy Torr assisted on 31 kills and had six digs.
MSU Denver led 15-9 in the second set before falling 27-25.
The Roadrunners are back in action at home on Friday against No. 18 Colorado Mesa at 7 p.m.
