DENVER - Metropolitan State University of Denver scored three second-half goals to win 3-0 against Colorado Christian on Friday at The Regency Athletic Complex. The Roadrunners snapped a two-game winless streak and improved to 4-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CCU dropped to 0-6-1 and 0-3-0.
CCU outshot the Roadrunners 7-3 in the first half, but MSU Denver came out strong in the second half.
Noemy Polanco (Long Beach, Calif./Lakewood H.S.) broke the scoreless tie in the 63rd minute. She took a free kick from 25 yards out on the right wing and pushed it over the goalkeeper's reach, just under the crossbar.
McKinzie Rieber (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge H.S.) pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 71st minute.
Emily Romer (Gilbert, Ariz./Perry H.S.) played a long pass to
Bry Sanchez (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic H.S.), who one-touched the ball to Rieber for a 1-on-1 with the defender in the box.
The Roadrunners added an insurance goal in the 86th minute when
Reigna Banks (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield H.S.) scored on a rebound after her initial shot was saved following a free kick from
Jordan Post (Spearfish, S.D./Spearfish H.S.).
Breanna Flores (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) made five saves in 75 minutes in goal and
Raeanna Rosales (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces H.S.) stopped two in the final 15 minutes. For the game, the shots were even 11-11 between the two teams.
MSU Denver will host Colorado School of Mines at noon on Sunday.
