Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team defeated Western New Mexico 100-60. The Roadrunners advance to 13-8, 11-4 RMAC while the Mustangs fall to 1-19, 1-14 RMAC.
The Roadrunners fell behind early trailing the Mustangs 8-2 in the first half. MSU Denver came back and held the Mustangs without a field goal for 11 minutes, out scoring Western New Mexico 35-4.
MSU Denver had six players in the double figures in scoring.
DeShawn Phenix (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley H.S.) led the team with 26 points. Phenix was followed by
Tony Dobbinson (Stamford, Conn./Westhill H.S.) with 14 points and Enrique Cortes Zotes with 13 points.
MSU Denver out-shot Western New Mexico with 54 percent to the Mustangs 31.1 percent.
The Roadrunners were led in rebounds
Andre Harris (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb H.S.) with 10 rebounds giving him a double-double for the second consecutive night with 10 points scored. Harris was followed by
Bounama Keita (Saint-Louis, Senegal/Impact Basketball Academy (Fla.)) with nine rebounds and
DeShawn Phenix (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley H.S.) with eight rebounds.
MSU Denver will be back in action at 7:30 p.m. when the travel to Western State on February 5.
