Denver - The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team defeated Western New Mexico University 99-55 at the Auraria Event Center Saturday night. The Roadrunners improved to 9-12 overall and 7-8 in RMAC. The Mustangs fell to 7-13 overall and 5-10 in RMAC.
The Roadrunners were led by Sophomore
J'Nae Squires-Horton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek H.S.) who scored 23 points and had five rebounds. Â Sophomore
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) added 22 points and nine rebounds while sophomore
Emily Hartegan (Wylie, Texas/Wylie East H.S.) contributed 14 points and eight rebounds.
The Roadrunners' offense got going early in the first half. Â The team scored 32 points in the first quarter and 23 in the second while holding the Mustangs to only 24 for the half. Â Squires-Horton scored 21 points in the first half, 15 of those from beyond the three-point arch. Â The Roadrunners also out-rebounded the Mustangs 29 to 12 in the half. Â MSU Denver went into the half with a lead of 55-24.
Throughout the second half the Roadrunners' lead continued to grow. Â In the third quarter the Roadrunners added another 22 points leading by as many as 43 with 4:01 to play in the quarter.
The last time the Roadrunners scored more than 99 points in a game was on December 3, 2011. MSU Denver defeated Western New Mexico on that occasion 109-47.
MSU Denver will face Western State in Gunnison, Colo. At 5:30 p.m. on Friday, February 5.
