Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver's women's basketball (1-0) team defeated Lubbock Christian University (0-1) 67-51 in the Holiday Inn Denver Cherry Creek Classic on Friday night.
The Roadrunners opened the game with a quick 6-0 run against the Lady Chaps and kept the momentum going throughout the quarter. Lubbock Christian came within two points at 8-6, but MSU Denver answered by going on a 7-1 run to finish the first quarter 15-7. The Roadrunners had 11 defensive rebounds in the quarter while the Lady Chaps tallied 7.
MSU Denver kept a strong defensive game throughout the second quarter holding Lubbock Christian to eight points in the quarter. The Roadrunners lead by as many as 16 after a 10-0 run with just under four minutes remaining in the second quarter. Junior
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) scored a buzzer beater to send the Roadrunners into half on top 32-15.
The Lady Chaps came back with some fight in the second half scoring 15 points in the third quarter doubling their first half score. However, the Roadrunners held their lead ending the third quarter 43-30. MSU Denver continued to pressure LCU scoring a game hight 24 points in the fourth quarter.
MSU Denver shot 42.9 percent to the Lady Chaps 32.7 percent. Hartegan and Ohrdorf lead the Roadrunners, both earning double doubles in the game. Hartegan had scored 17 points and had 11 rebounds. Ohrdorf scored 16 points and had 14 rebounds.
The Roadrunners will be back in action Saturday November 12 at 7 p.m. where they will face the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions at the Auraria Event Center.
