Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's volleyball team (25-4, 18-0 RMAC) fell 3-1 to Colorado School of Mines (24-6, 15-3 RMAC) in the final of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament. This ended the Roadrunners 21-game winning streak.
Colorado Mines had the upper hand through the first set winning 25-18 and leading the Roadrunners by as many as seven points several times in the set. The Orediggers were led by Ellie Monarch who had five kills in the set. Senior
Michaela Smith (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) led both teams with seven kills.
The Orediggers maintained momentum throughout the second set to take set 25-18. The Orediggers held the Roadrunners to a .273 hitting percentage in the set. Madeline Behr led Colorado Mines with four kills.
MSU Denver fought back to take the third set 25-19. Junior
Ryan Hoerdemann (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe H.S.) led both teams in the set with seven kills, a hitting percentage .545, and three digs. Sophomore
Santaisha Sturges (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) and redshirt freshman
Alyssa Kelling (Merton, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) added three kills and senior
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) provided 11 assists in the set.
MSU Denver fell in the final set to the Orediggers 25-14. Smith led the Roadrunners in the final set with 15 kills. She was followed by Hoerdemann with 14 kills and Sturges with 11. The Roadrunners fell short with a hitting percentage of .243 to the Orediggers .363.
Torr and Sturges were named to the All-Tournament Team for their play over the weekend.
MSU Denver will host an NCAA Selection Show Watch Party on Monday November 21 at the Tivoli Tap House. The event will begin at 5 p.m. when
Jenny Glenn and two student-athletes join the Coaches Corner followed by a live broadcast of the selection show at 5:30 p.m. The Roadrunners will learn who they will face in the NCAA tournament in Dallas, Texas.
