Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team was defeated by UCCS on Friday night 82-57. The Roadrunners finish the season with a record of 13-15 overall and 11-11 in the RMAC.
The Roadrunners were led in scoring by sophomore
Emily Hartegan (Wylie, Texas/Wylie East H.S.). Hartegan scored 18 points followed by sophomore
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) with 10 points. Hartegan also led the team in rebounds with seven.
MSU Denver was able to jump out early and build an 11-3 lead following a Hartegan jumper with 4:57 to go in the first quarter. The Roadrunners would get outscored 14-3 over the remaining portion of the period and MSU Denver would trail 17-14 at the end of the quarter.
In the second period, MSU Denver would be held scoreless for over four minutes to begin the period until sophomore
Hannah Stipanovich (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton H.S.) converted a traditional three-point play to make the score 26-17. UCCS continued to expand its lead throughout the period. The Roadrunners trailed 39-26 at halftime.
Hartegan and Ohrdorf combined for the first seven points for the Roadrunners in the third quarter. MSU Denver would not be able to close in the UCCS lead. The Roadrunners trailed 61-44 after thre quarters of play.
In the fourth quarter, MSU Denver struggled to score. Hartegan was the only Roadrunner to make a field goal besides junior Janae Paine who sank a three-point basket in the final seconds of the game.
