Grand Junction, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader to No. 5 Colorado Mesa on Saturday to fall to 6-11 overall and 2-5 in the RMAC.
In the first game, MSU Denver was defeated 8-2 by Colorado Mesa. MSU Denver fell behind quickly when Colorado Mesa hit on two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. Colorado Mesa would score another run in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 3-0. The Roadrunners would get their bats going in the fourth inning when sophomore
Trent Maloney (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) hit his first home run of the season to cut the Mavericks lead to 3-1. Later in the fourth inning, senior
Nick Comito (Lakewood, Colo./Mullen H.S.) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score sophomore
Cale O'Donnell (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) to bring the Roadrunners within one, 3-2. In the top of the fifth inning, MSU Denver loaded the bases with one out following a walk by senior
Jeff Levett (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.), a single by senior
Andrew Paust (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.), and a walk by Maloney. The Roadrunners were unable to capitalize and left all three on base. MSU Denver left two on base in the top of the sixth inning also. Colorado Mesa found its offense in the bottom of the sixth scoring five runs. Sophomore
Javi Vega (Chula Vista, Calif./Castle Park H.S.) took the loss for the Roadrunners on the mound to fall to 2-1 as a starter. Vega pitched five innings allowing six runs on eight hits.

Jared Roley (Littleton, Colo./Heritage H.S.) game up a solo home run. MSU Denver held Colorado Mesa to one run until the fourth inning when the Mavericks scored two more to take a 3-0 lead. Junior
Nick McCasky (Golden, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) provided an offensive spark in the top of the fifth inning with a solo home run of his own, his first of the year. Colorado Mesa struck back in the bottom of the sixth inning with one run to make the score 4-1 in favor of the Mavericks. MSU Denver managed only four hits in the game.
MSU Denver will face Colorado Mesa in the conclusion of the four-game series on Sunday, March 14. First pitch is slated for noon.
