Denver-The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team defeated Regis University 4-2 on Friday, April 1 at the Regency Athletic Complex.
Regis began the game with two doubles, scoring off one to go up 1-0 in the first inning. MSU Denver responded in the second when sophomore
Hunter Donaldson (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) scored off of a sacrifice fly off from junior
Jake Thurston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview H.S.). MSU Denver took the lead in the fourth inning thanks to a double from junior
Andrew Paust (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.), who would later score off of a RBI single by junior
Nick McCasky (Golden, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.). The Roadrunners continued their scoring streak with a home run in the bottom of the fifth inning by senior
Jeff Levett (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.), his first of the season. Junior
Andrew Paust (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) recorded his fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning, increasing MSU Denver's lead to 4-1.
Regis made a final push in the eighth inning with senior Ty Overboe's solo shot to left but that would prove to be their final run of the game. Sophomore
Julian Garcia (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) earned the win (4-3) and posted a complete game shutout for MSU Denver in a 124-pitch outing. The Roadrunners improved to 10-13 overall and 6-7 in RMAC play.
MSU Denver will continue their four-game series against Regis University with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1pm and Sunday at noon.
