MSU Denver defeated 8-5 by Colorado School of Mines on Sunday

Golden, Colo. - The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team lost 8-5 against Colorado School of Mines on Sunday, April 24. The Roadrunners record drops to 14-21 overall and 10-15 in conference play.

Mines jumped out to a 1-0 lead after a solo home run in the bottom of the 1st off junior starter Ryan Baca (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.). The Roadrunners quickly tied the game in the top half of the 2nd when senior Nick Comito (Lakewood, Colo./Mullen H.S.) singled to center to bring home junior designated hitter Nick McCasky (Golden, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.).  The two teams would exchange runs back and forth for the majority of the game.

The Roadrunners took their first lead of the day in the 4th inning off a solo shot over the right field fence from junior Reilly Mau (Longmont, Colo./Longmont H.S.), his first of the season.  Mines took their turn in the bottom half of the inning, scoring off a double and an error by sophomore left fielder Hunter Donaldson (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) to tie the game 2-2.

The Orediggers reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the 5th with an RBI single to left field off of Baca that brought in two making the score 4-2. Catcher Marcus Bean (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) then came through in the clutch with the two-out RBI single with the bases loaded in the top of the 6th, again leveling the score 4-4.

Cale O'Donnell (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) put the Roadrunners ahead with a solo home run in the top of the 8th, but the Orediggers responded with four runs off reliever Aaron Gjersee (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge H.S.) in the bottom half to go ahead for good 8-5.

Junior Andrew Paust (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) went 3-5 on the day and extended his hitting streak to seven games, his longest of the season.

The Roadrunners will then conclude their home schedule at the Regency Athletic Complex on April 29- May 1 against national-ranked Colorado Mesa.
