Men’s Soccer: Physical Battle Against Mavericks Ends in a Draw

Roadrunners tie season opener 0-0

Denver - The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's soccer team tied Colorado Mesa 0-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season opener to move to 2-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the RMAC.

The Roadrunners jumped out to a quick start in the first minutes of the game when senior Josh Belfrage (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.) had a break away opportunity but was unable to finish his chance.  Belfrage finished the game with three shots including one on goal. The first half proved to be a physical battle with five yellow cards and one red card being issued to both sides.  The Roadrunners would go on to have seven shots to the Mavericks five ending the first half 0-0.

Both sides saw chances in the second half but failed to execute.  Colorado Mesa played an offensive second half having 10 shots to the Roadrunners two.  Senior Hayden Rus (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) came up strong and kept the Mavericks at bay saving five shots in the second half and seven on the game.

Neither side could find the back of the net at the end of double overtime, ending the night in a 0-0 draw.

The Roadrunners take on Westminster College at 1 p.m., Sunday at the Regency Athletic Complex.
