Bellingham- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's soccer team earned its first road win of the season Thursday September 8th against the Western Washington Vikings. The match proved to be a physical battle with 35 combined fouls and 8 yellow cards being issued.

Josh Belfrage (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.) scored just 10 minutes into the first half from four yards out off a cross from freshman Demitri Ney. The Vikings answered back tying the game with 14 minutes to go in the first half when senior Eleazar Galvan scored on a one touch finish. Shortly after the start of the second half
D'Angelo Escobar (Firestone, Colo./Thornton High School ) scored what turned out to be the match-winning goal for the Roadrunners. Escobar blasted in a half volley from the top of the 18-yard box after the Vikings failed to clear the ball.
MSU Denver improved to 2-1-0 while Western Washington fell to 1-1-1. The Roadrunners will continue their road trip Saturday against Seattle Pacific University at 4:30 p.m. PT in Seattle, Washington.
