Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's soccer team (8-9, 8-6 RMAC) fell 5-0 to No. 20 Colorado Mesa (15-2-1, 11-2-1 RMAC) in its last regular season Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game.
Emotions ran high to begin the game with energy being brought by both sides. The earliest chance for the Mavericks came 16 minutes in when junior goalkeeper
James Tanner (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens H.S.) made a great save from inside the box followed by junior center back
Kyle VanAlstine (Vail, Ariz./Cienega H.S.) clearing the ball outside of the box.
Just minutes following, the Mavericks made it up on the board when Kevin Del Mazo took a shot from inside the box to find the back of the net.
Four minutes following the first goal Colorado Mesa struck again taking a 2-0 lead from another shot inside the Roadrunners box. Maverick forward Moshe Perez scored his tenth goal of the season for his team on the play.
The Roadrunners took three shots in the first half and the Mavericks took four. MSU Denver had four first half corners to the Mavericks two.
The Mavs found the third goal in the 59
th minute, scoring a penalty kick to go up on the Roadrunners 3-0.
Colorado Mesa continued to push and were able to score two more goals in the second half to take a 5-0 win over MSU Denver. Both teams finished with nine shots in the game.
The Roadrunners will compete in the quarterfinals of the RMAC tournament on Tuesday, October 31.
