Lakewood, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team won its third consecutive game after defeating Colorado Christian 56-43 on Sunday to move to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Senior
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) led all players in scoring with 15 points. Juniors
Jaelynn Smith (Denver, Colo./East H.S.) and
Emily Hartegan (Wylie, Texas/Wylie East H.S.) each scored in double-figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Senior
Mikayla Gonzales (Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View High School) grabbed 12 rebounds and tallied three steals in the contest.
MSU Denver established a tone for the game early on. The Roadrunners allowed only five points on two field goals in the first quarter. Colorado Christian was held scoreless for over six minutes. MSU Denver built a 14-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Roadrunners would get up by as many as 15 in the second quarter. Colorado Christian would not go away and the Cougars finished the quarter on a 7-0 run. MSU Denver held a 26-18 lead at halftime.
MSU Denver opened the third quarter with a 8-0 run of their own. The Roadrunners would enjoy their largest lead of the game at the end of the third quarter at 45-28 following a three-point basket by junior
Jonalyn Wittwer (Fall Creek, Wis./Fall Creek H.S.).
In the fourth quarter, the Roadrunners would never lead by less than 10 points. MSU Denver held Colorado Christian to 25.5 percent shooting from the field for the game.
The Roadrunners will travel to Grand Junction, Colo. on December 30 to take on Colorado Mesa on Saturday, January 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
