Colorado Springs, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team fell 66-62 in the quarter finals of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament UCCS. The Roadrunners fell to 18-12 overall. The Mountain Lions improved to 21-8 overall.
 
The Roadrunners were led by juniors 
J'Nae Squires-Horton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek H.S.) and 
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College). Squires-Horton finished with 19 points. Ohrdorf led all scorers with 23 points, 19 of which came in the second half while adding five boards. MSU Denver and UCCS both shot 42 percent from the field in the game.
 
Squires-Horton got the game going for the Roadrunners, scoring a jumper and one from behind the arch to put the Roadrunners up 5-2, minutes into the first quarter. The remainder of the quarter stayed tight with the Mountain Lions taking the lead going into the second 15-10.  Squires-Horton had eight of the first 10 points for the Roadrunners.
 
MSU Denver scored the first points of the second quarter just six seconds in, off a layup from sophomore 
Mikayla Gonzales (Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View High School), however UCCS answered back scoring the next five to extend the lead to 20-14.
 
Squires-Hotron would go on to score two three-pointers for the Roadrunners to tie the game at 20 with 3:12 remaining in the first half. Sophomore 
Jaelynn Smith (Denver, Colo./East H.S.) followed by taking the lead for the Roadrunners at 23-26, but the Mountain Lions scored the last five points of the half to send the game into half on top 26-23.
 
Squires-Horton had 14 of the Roadrunners 23 first half points. MSU Denver shot 39 percent from the field in the first half while holding UCCS to 32 percent.
 
The Mountain Lions brought the energy to start the second half, kicking the half off scoring one from downtown followed by a converted three-point play to extend their lead to 32-23. They would continue to extend their lead through most of the third quarter with the largest lead being 11 at 45-34. But the Roadrunners went on a 12-4 run to end the quarter and cut the Mountain Lions lead to 49-46 going into the last quarter of the game.
 
The Roadrunners stole the lead at 50-49 after a make jumper from sophomore Jonalynn Wittwer just over a minute into the fourth quarter. The lead changed several times in the following three minutes with the Mountain Lions up 57-54 with 4:31 to go in the game.
 
Each side continued to exchange with the UCCS keeping its lead.
 
Ohrdorf scored a layup to cut the Mountain Lions lead to three with 1:31 to go in the game. With the score remaining 63-60 in favor of UCCS for several possessions the Roadrunners called a timeout with 31 seconds remaining.
 
Ohrdorf finished another layup following the timeout to cut the lead to 63-62 with 16 seconds left. Several made free throws put the Mountain Lions up 66-62, and that would be enough to earn the win.
