Box Score Rapid City, S.D.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team defeated South Dakota Mines to earn its second road win of the weekend. The Roadrunners improved to 14-9 overall and 10-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Hardrockers fell to 10-14 overall and 6-12 in conference play.
MSU Denver was led by junior
Sunday Dech (Perth, Australia/Churchlands H.S.) and
Allec Williams (Albany, Ga./Westover High School ) both with 23 points. Williams scored 15 of his 23 in the second half going 10-15 from the field. Senior
Brian Howard (Maywood, Ill./Saint Ignatius H.S.) scored 14 for the Roadrunners and Senior
Andre Harris (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb H.S.) finished with 9 points and 6 rebounds on the night. The Roadrunners shot 50 percent from the field and 42 percent from behind the arch. MSU Denver held the Hardrockers to 37 percent from the field.
South Dakota Mines got the game going scoring one from downtown in the first 30 seconds of the game and sending the Hardrockers on a 13-0 run to begin the half.
Dech and junior
Peter Møller (Værløse, Denmark/Falkonergårdens Gymnasium) scored the first four for the Roadrunners off two layups, cutting the lead to nine. But the Hardrockers would continue to put the pressure on taking a 15-point lead eight minutes in.
Howard hit two threes with seven minutes remaining in the half to bring the Roadrunners within four and to give a spark to the Roadrunners. Dech went on to score five for the Roadrunners with four minutes remaining in the half and making the score 30-29 in favor of the Hardrockers.
The rest of the half went back and forth however; the Roadrunners were able to tie the game at 35 to send the game into halftime.
The first 10 minutes of the second half remained a close battle with MSU Denver leading by as many as four and South Dakota Mines leading by as many as three.
The Roadrunners began to break through with five minutes remaining in the game with some key offensive plays. Leading by fourteen with 58 seconds left MSU Denver sealed the road win 76-62.
The Roadrunners will host Chadron State next Friday, February 10 at 7 p.m.
