Women’s Soccer: Flores scores First Career Goal to Give Roadrunner Overtime Win

Roadrunners win 1-0 in overtime

Box Score Salt Lake City, Utah- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's soccer team (5-4-0, 4-1-0 RMAC) defeated the Westminster College Griffins (4-5-0, 1-4-0 RMAC) 1-0 in overtime on Friday, September 29.

Junior Arianna Flores scored the difference maker in the 99th minute just before time was going to expire in the first overtime for the Roadrunners to take the 1-0 win on the road.

The first half was uneventful for both sides as neither team was able to get the go ahead goal.

The Griffins showed some physical presence in the half posting eight fouls to the Roadrunners three.  MSU Denver outshot Westminster in the first half 5-2, with both sides hitting one on net.

The second half was much like the first with neither side able to break the other down to take a lead sending the game into overtime.

In the 99th minute of the game and final minute of the first overtime freshman Ariana Flores would score her first career goal as a Roadrunner.  Flores followed up a shot taken from the right side from sophomore Makenna Brassard.  The freshman was then able to finish the rebound from the Griffins goal keeper ending the game with the Roadrunners on top 1-0.

The Roadrunners will take on Colorado Mesa on Sunday, October 1 in Grand Junction at 2:30 p.m.
