Denver, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's soccer team fell 2-1 in overtime to Seattle Pacific in its 2017 home opener on Thursday, September 7. The Roadrunners fell to 1-2-0 while the Falcons improved to 2-0.
The Roadrunners came out of the gates on fire, scoring on the Falcons just 50 seconds into the game when junior
Reigna Banks (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield H.S.) took the ball to the left end line and crossed the ball into the middle of the box to find the foot of senior
Elise Boisnard (Denver, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.). Boisnard scored her first goal of the season on a one touch finish to go past the Falcon's goal keeper in the left corner of the net.
Much of the first half was played in the middle of the field, with MSU Denver having a slight upper hand over Seattle Pacific. The Roadrunners earned six first half corner kicks to the Falcons one.
The scored stayed the same throughout the first half, with the Roadrunners heading into the second half on top 1-0.
The Falcons came out of halftime putting pressure on the Roadrunners from the start. The first great chance for the Falcons came in the 65
th minute, but junior goal keeper
Breanna Flores (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) made a tremendous save deflecting a great shot to keep the Roadrunners ahead.
Shortly after, Seattle Pacific tied the game up at one when Megan Morre send a through ball to forward Mickayla Mury who was able to hit a shot to the bottom left corner of the net. Sending the game into overtime.
The Falcons struck again just two minutes into overtime. Simone Herzberg of Seattle Pacific send a long ball from behind half field to forward Kasey Reeve who was able to get a toe on it to roll the ball into the net and end the game with the Falcons on top 2-1.
The Roadrunners took seven shots in the game with the Falcons taking 14.
The Roadrunners look to bounce back when they host No. 1 Western Washington on Sunday, September 10 at 12 p.m.
