@MSUDenverMSOC: Roadrunners Run Past Adams State, 5-0

Coking scores two goals, Gutierrez adds goal and two assists

DENVER – Jacob Coking scored two goals as MSU Denver opened a critical four-game homestand by rolling to an easy 5-0 win Friday over Adams State.

It was the second straight win for the Roadrunners (5-6 overall, 4-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference), who are building momentum towards a potential home game in the RMAC tournament.

"As a team we played really well," Coking said. "It was nice to see the things we were practicing come into play. The individual success is nice, but it's better to see the team doing well."

Yannick Schad, Rafael Munoz-Vega and Jaime Gutierrez also scored goals as the Roadrunners scored five goals for the first time since posting a 5-2 win over Colorado State University-Pueblo on Oct. 2, 2016. MSU Denver faces CSU-Pueblo at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Regency Athletic Complex.

"Pueblo is a good team," MSU Denver coach Jeremy Tittle said. "We need to make sure we come back, work hard, be ambitious about the game and keep our priorities straight."

After a tight first half, the Roadrunners poured it on with four second-half goals.

"We needed to improve the quality of our possession and speed of play and be more clinical in front of the goal," Tittle said. "We were able to put all those things together."

MSU Denver put 12 shots on goal, while Adams State (0-9-2, 0-5-2) managed six. James Tanner was up to the task in earned the shutout.

Coking doubled his previous goal total to take over the team lead with four on the season. Gutierrez added two assists to go along with his goal and now has a team-high four assists. Munoz-Vega also picked up an assist for a three-point night.
