St. George, Utah- The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team fell 9-1 to Cal-Baptist on Saturday in its last game of the Easton Classic. The Roadrunners went 1-4 over the weekend.
The first two innings was a battle between the two sides with just one hit being recorded from the Lancers in the first. Sophomore pitcher
Darby McGhee (Camarillo, Calif./Adolfo Camarillo High School) started off strong forcing three runners to be left on base for Cal-Baptist through the first two innings.
The Lancers broke the scoreless game in the top of the third, scoring the first run after two runners made it on base. They would then go on to score a three run home run to take a 4-0 lead.
The score would remain 4-0 in favor of the Lancers until the Roadrunners made it on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Senior
Annika Anderson (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) reached base on a single and junior
Jasmine Wessel (Thornton, CO/Horizon High School) would score Anderson on a single, cutting the lead to 4-1 heading into the fifth.
Two more home runs would come for the lancers in the fifth, to extend the lead to 9-1. The Roadrunners were unable to make the comeback in the final inning.
The Roadrunners will take on MSU-Billings next Saturday, February 17 in its first home game of the 2018 season.
