Men's Basketball: Grizzlies Slip Past Roadrunners in RMAC Quarterfinals

Roadrunners fall 64-61

Alamosa, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team fell 64-61 to Adams State in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference quarterfinals.
 
Senior Cameron Williams (Omaha, Nebraska/Omaha South H.S.) led the Roadrunners with 18 points and nine rebounds.  Senior Bounama Keita (Saint-Louis, Senegal/Impact Basketball Academy (Fla.)) led the game with 15 rebounds.
 
The Roadrunners started off the game strong, outscoring the Grizzlies 8-2 to take an early lead. MSU Denver was able to hold the lead until just over 10 minutes remaining in the half when the Grizzlies went on a 7-0 run to take a 14-12 lead.
 
A 10-3 run, finishing with a big three from junior Enrique Cortés Zotes (Malaga, Spain/I.E.S. Litoral) with five minutes remaining in the half  would give the Roadrunners their largest lead at 24-18.  However, Adams State would outscore the Roadrunners 9-2 to finish the half on top 27-26.
 
The second half stayed close between the two teams. Following a six point Grizzlie lead, the Roadrunners made a great run to steal the lead at 45-44 with 9:26 left on the clock.
 
The game continued to go back and forth the following minutes. Adams State was able to take another six point lead with 2:42 left in the game.  The Roadrunners fought hard for the comeback bringing the score within two with 1:22 remaining in the game.
 
With just six seconds left and down by three the Roadrunners got one more chance, but were unable to tie the game up and send it into overtime.
 
The Roadrunners finished the season with an overall record of 15-14 and conference record of 14-8.
