Women's Basketball: MSU Denver Moves On to RMAC Semifinal Following Victory Over CMU

Ohrdorf finishes the night with a double double

Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team defeated Colorado Mesa in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference quarterfinal.  The Roadrunners will move on to the tournament semifinal on Friday.
 
Senior J'Nae Squires-Horton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek H.S.) led the Roadrunners with 18 points going 4-6 from downtown. Senior Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) ended with a double double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Mavericks came out of the gate strong taking a small lead over the Roadrunners in the first few minutes of the first quarter. The go-ahead bucket would come from Squires-Horton three minutes into the quarter, taking a 7-6 lead for her team.
 
The Roadrunners would extend the lead through the rest of the quarter heading into the second quarter on top 24-14. Squires-Horton had 11 first quarter points, going 3-3 from downtown.
 
MSU Denver kept up the pressure through the second half continuing the make stops on the defensive end while converting on the offensive end.  The score remained in favor of the Roadrunners 41-27 at half.
 
Squires-Horton led all scorers at half with 13.  The Roadrunners shot 53 percent from the field and 85 percent from the three in the first half.  The Mavs shot 40 percent from the field and 14 percent from the three.
 
MSU Denver stayed composed in the second half, holding a comfortable lead through the rest of the game. 
 
The Roadrunners held the Mavs to just two points through the first media timeout of the fourth quarter, leading by as many as 21.
 
MSU Denver took the 71-58 win in the quarterfinals.  The team will take on Black Hills State on Friday in the RMAC tournament semifinal.  Time and location is TBA.
