Albuquerque, New Mexico- The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team fell 3-2 against Texas A&M Commerce to wrap up competition at the Colorado Mesa Invitational. The Roadrunners went 1-4 at the CMU Invite to begin the 2018 season.

The first five innings proved to be a pitching dual between the two sides with junior Kaylee Burnside on the mound for the Roadrunners. There was just five hits through the first four innings.

The Lions made it on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring two on a Roadrunners wild pitch and error.

MSU Denver was able to make strong comeback in the top of the seventh.Â
Sarena Espinoza (Corona, Calif./Corona Centennial H.S.) drew a walk to begin the inning. Senior
Annika Anderson (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) followed hitting a single to put two on base. Sophomore
Darby McGhee (Camarillo, Calif./Adolfo Camarillo High School) hit a double to bring both runners home to tie the game up at 2.

In the bottom of the seventh with two outs the Lions were able to put two hits up on the board to score the winning run.

  The Roadrunners will travel to compete in the Dixie State Invite next weekend Thursday, February 8 through Saturday, February 10.Â
