Denver- The Metropolitan state university of Denver baseball team fell in its final game of the series against Emporia State 10-6. The Roadrunners fell to 1-4 while the Hornets improved to 3-4.
A homer would get the game started in the top of the first with Emporia state knocking one out of the park to take an early 1-0 lead over the Roadrunners. A key defensive play just before the homer would be key with pitcher
Javi Vega (Chula Vista, Calif./Castle Park H.S.) earning a pick off to take the runner off base.
The Roadrunners nearly put runs up on the board in the bottom of the inning but the Hornets made it out of the inning with the bases loaded for the Roadrunners.
A big triple from Emporia would put two more runs up for the Hornets to take a 3-0 lead heading into bottom of the second.
Juniors
Draven Adame (Lamar, Colo. /Lamar High School) and
Jake Kistaitis (Omaha, Nebraska/ Millard West High School) led off the inning with singles. Junior
Aaron Germani (Littleton, Colo./ThunderRidge H.S.) would earn a walk to load the bases for the Roadrunners. Freshman
Jimmy Holinger (Parker, CO/Regis Jesuit High School) sent Adame home for the first run of the inning. Senior
Sean Kennedy (Aurora, Colo./Grandview High School) earned a walk to send the second run in. Senior Donny Ortiz Jr. put up a sac fly to send the third run home for the Roadrunners to tie the score up at 3.
The Hornets regained the lead in the third, scoring after a double and a sacrifice fly. However, the Roadrunners tied the game right back up in the fourth with Ortiz earning his second RBI, scoring Germani.
The next few innings the Hornets exploded for six runs, one in the fifth and five in the seventh.
The Roadrunners scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh after a Hornets error on the third out.
The score would remain 10-6 for the remainder of the game with the Hornets taking the series 3-0.
The Roadrunners out hit the Hornets 13-11 in the game.
The Roadrunners will take on University of Sioux Falls at home next Friday at 12 noon.
