Roadrunners take two wins against Adams State on senior day

Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team defeated Adams State in a double header on Saturday afternoon for senior day, honoring the four Roadrunner seniors at the Regency Athletic Complex.  The Roadrunners took the first game 9-3 and the second game 9-1. The Roadrunners improved to 32-21 overall and 27-12 in the RMAC.

The scoring began in the bottom of the first innings for the Roadrunners with a leadoff walk for sophomore Megan Sansburn (/Dakota Ridge H.S. ).  Senior Kristyn Peters (Lakewood, CO/Dakota Ridge) would score Sansburn, connecting for a triple to right center. Senior Sarena Espinoza (Corona, Calif./Corona Centennial H.S.) would score Peters on the next at bat on a sacrifice fly.

With a 2-1 lead for the Roadrunners in the top of the second, the Grizzlies were able to load the bases and score one run.  But the Roadrunners made it out of the inning allowing just one run with three runners left on base.

Adams State stole the lead from MSU Denver in the top of the third, scoring two runs to take a 3-2 lead. However, a two-run homer from sophomore Alyssa Ritcher took back the lead for the Roadrunners in the bottom of the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Peters extended the Roadrunners lead hitting a bomb out of the park for the second home run of the game for MSU Denver. The Roadrunners would score one more run in the inning to take a 6-3 lead.

MSU Denver put three more runs up on the Grizzlies in the sixth and defensively forced two quick fly outs and a strikeout in the top of the seventh to take the game 9-3. Freshman Koryna Wright (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga High School) pitched five innings for the Roadrunners for her fifth win of the season.

Seniors; Anderson, Peters, and Espinoza all recorded two RBIs in game one.

Anderson score the next two runs for the Roadrunners, firing her second triple of the day to steal the lead at 3-1. Junior Jasmine Wessel (Thornton, CO/Horizon High School) went on to score Anderson for the fourth and final run of the inning.
