Grand Junction, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver fell 10-2 to No. 12 Colorado Mesa to end its 2018 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament run.

The offense didn't get rolling until the second inning for both sides. The Roadrunners recorded three hits in second to load the bases, but the Mavericks were able to close out the inning with a double play to keep the Roadrunners scoreless.

In the bottom of the second Mesa was able to make it on the board scoring three runs on four hits to take a 3-0 lead.

The Roadrunners were able to get right back into the game in the top of the third. Freshman
Jimmy Holinger (Parker, CO/Regis Jesuit High School) and senior Donny Ortiz Jr. led the off inning with singles. Senior
Sean Kennedy (Aurora, Colo./Grandview High School) was then able to load the bases following getting hit by a pitch. Senior Hunter Donaldon then fired a double to right field to score two runs for the Roadrunners and cut the lead to 3-2.

The Mavericks regained the upper hand continuing to extend its lead through the next few innings. Â Scoring one run in the third and six in the fourth to take a 10-2 lead.

The score would remain 10-2 in favor of the Mavericks through the remainder of the game for Mesa to take the win and stay alive in the tournament.

The Roadrunners will finished the season 22-28 overall.Â
