Grand Junction, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team fell to No. 3 Colorado Mesa and Adams State in the second day of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament. The Roadrunners fell 10-2 in game one against the Mavericks and 10-5 against Adams State in the second game of the day.

The Mavericks got off to a strong start in game one, putting together three consecutive hits to start the game, scoring three runs. However, pitcher
Kylee Burnside (Idaho Falls, Idaho/Skyline H.S.) and the Roadrunners defense were able to retire the following three batters to make it out of the first inning trailing 3-0.

The strength continued for Mesa, putting together a five run inning in the bottom of the inning to take a 8-0 lead over MSU Denver. Â

Redshirt sophomore
Tes Hass (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) put the Roadrunners up on the board in the fourth, hitting one out of the park, scoring two runs to cut the Mavericks lead to 8-2.

Two more runs from the Mavericks would end the game in five innings, taking the 10-2 win over MSU Denver.

In game two of the day, the Roadrunners took on Adams State. The first two innings went fairly quick, with the Roadrunners putting up the only hit from both sides in the second.

The Grizzlies made it on the board in the top of the third when a double would score one runner and take a 1-0 lead.

Adams was able to extend its lead following a huge fourth inning scoring four runs on the Roadrunners to take a 6-0 lead.

Senior
Sarena Espinoza (Corona, Calif./Corona Centennial H.S.) earned a few runs back for the Roadrunners, knocking one out of the park to score two runs and cut the lead to 5-2.

MSU Denver carried the momentum into the next inning, holding the Grizzlies to just one run and going on a rally to score three runs to cut the lead to just 6-5. However, two home runs in the top of the sixth from Adams would allow the Grizzlies to regain a strong lead.

MSU Denver was unable to put together the comeback and the Grizzlies took the 10-5 win, ending the tournament run for the Roadrunners. Â

MSU Denver finished the season 34-23 overall and 28-12 in the RMAC.Â
