DENVER -- The Metropolitan State University of Denver athletics department announced Monday that it has added
Rob White to its staff as Marketing Services Specialist.

White comes to MSU Denver with 25 years of experience in athletics, primarily as a sports reporter the Omaha World-Herald, where he spent more than a decade covering intercollegiate athletics.

At the World-Herald, White and two colleagues shared the Sorenson Award for Distinguished Nebraska Journalism in 2007 for their reporting on spending of athletic department funds at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He also received the Kolpack Media Award from the North Central Conference.

The Marketing Services Specialist reports to the Associate Director of Athletics for External Operations. White will be responsible for creating written, video and graphic content for MSU Denver athletics, including the pursuit and development of new strategies for digital and social communication. His duties will also include producing specialized features on MSU Denver athletics, as well as assisting in the creation of new media marketing, digital media advertising, fundraising strategies, promotions and sponsorship development and fulfillment.

White covered Nebraska-Omaha athletics for more than a decade, including the program's transition from Division II to Division I. Additionally, he spent 18 years covering Kansas City's Class AAA baseball team, covering future stars such as Zack Greinke, Eric Hosmer, Lorenzo Cain and Mike Moustakas. He also spent 10 years as the official scorer.

His World-Herald duties also included covering the annual College World Series, and he has covered NCAA basketball tournaments, the Big Ten basketball tournament, the Big 12 football championship game and football games at Nebraska, Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State and many others. His interview subjects include five members of the Baseball Hall of Fame, a Heisman Trophy winner, billionaire Warren Buffett and renowned livestock industry consultant and autism spokesperson Temple Grandin.

He began his World-Herald career covering western Iowa high schools and covered dozens of state tournaments in both Iowa and Nebraska.

Prior to joining the World-Herald, White spent three years at the Hastings (Neb.) Tribune, where he covered Hastings College athletics in addition to high school sports. He is a Hastings College graduate and played one season of basketball for the Broncos.

White moved with his family to Fort Collins in 2014 and spent 18 months working for the Fort Collins Coloradoan, covering education (both Colorado State University and Poudre School District) and other topics. White has also earned secondary education licensure as a social studies teacher through the University of Northern Colorado.

He was born in Amery, Wis., and grew up in Grand Island, Neb., graduating from Central Catholic High School.
