ALAMOSA, Colo. – Metropolitan State University of Denver had little trouble in its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener.
The Roadrunners sailed past Adams State 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-16) Friday night at Plachy Hall Gymnasium.
"We served aggressively and efficiently tonight, which set us up to be successful," MSU Denver coach
Jenny Glenn said.
MSU Denver, picked to finish third in the RMAC, improved to 5-4 overall. Adams State, picked to finish eighth, is 3-5.
"Each match we play is teaching us something new about ourselves and tonight was no exception," Glenn said. "I am pleased with how this group continues to work hard to become a better team on and off the court."
Santaisha Sturges (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit) and
Taylor Duryea (Logan, Utah/Sky View) each had 10 kills for the Roadrunners, while
Lyric Hebert (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) had 20 digs.
Alyssa Kelling (Merton, Wis./Arrowhead) hit .778, with seven kills on nine attacks. Setter
Morgan Weatherwax (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain) had five kills on six attacks for an .833 hitting percentage.
The Roadrunners hit .314 for the match, hitting .300 or better in all three sets.
The Roadrunners finish their road trip Saturday night against Fort Lewis, the preseason pick to finish 14
th in the RMAC.
