@MSUDenverVB: Roadrunners Commit Fewest Attack Errors Since 2009 in Rout of Chadron State

MSU Denver hits .394 en route to sweep in first of back-to-back away matches against Eagles

CHADRON, Neb. – With the regular season winding down, it's the right time to catch fire for the Metropolitan State University of Denver volleyball team.

The Roadrunners (20-6, 15-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) were certainly ablaze in a Thursday evening slate at Chadron State, sweeping the Eagles (14-11, 8-9 RMAC) in a dominant performance inside the Chicoine Center (25-15, 25-13, 25-13).

MSU Denver hit .394 in the sweep, its highest team hitting percentage since a .427 output in a sweep over Adams State on Nov. 23, 2013. The Roadrunners' miniscule total of six attack errors was the fewest for the team since Aug. 28, 2009, when they made just four miscues in a sweep of Millersville (Pa.).

Meanwhile, the Roadrunners held the Eagles to an .070 clip as they became the third straight MSU Denver opponent to hit under .100.

"We played a clean match tonight in most aspects of the game," MSU Denver coach Jenny Glenn said following the match. "I am proud of how we attacked the match from start to finish and maintained our composure during chaotic moments."

It was all systems go for MSU Denver from first serve, as the Roadrunners scored twice for every Eagle point early in the first frame to build a 16-8 lead. They eventually took the frame by a 25-15 count, which would be the closest margin of the entire night.

Leading 9-5 in the second set, Avaline Lai hammered home three consecutive kills followed by a kill from Rylee Hladky to give MSU Denver a 13-5 advantage. Later, two Hladky kills sandwiched another from Lai for another three-point burst that sealed the set, which eventually ended by a 25-13 score in favor of the Roadrunners.

MSU Denver didn't let up in the third stanza, fending off an early charge from Chadron State with a four-point run to take a 10-5 lead. That lead ballooned to 10 at 19-9 following yet another three-point spurt from MSU Denver. At that point, the set was out of the Eagles' reach as MSU Denver was victorious by a score of 25-13 once again.

A number of Roadrunners had fantastic nights as part of the historic offensive performance. Junior Kayla White returned to form with a team-leading 16 kills on .359 hitting, adding nine digs. Rylee Hladky notched the eighth double-double of her freshman campaign with 12 kills and 15 digs, posting her second-best hitting percentage of the season at .423.

Avaline Lai continued her impressive season with another very efficient night, recording 10 kills on .563 hitting, which was also her second-best hitting percentage of the year.

Alexis Benda added seven kills on .353 hitting, while Alyssa Kelling contributed six hammers with a .357 percentage. MSU Denver's 6-2 system worked to perfection on Thursday, as Joli Sadler contributed 25 assists while Jessa Megenhardt chipped in 23. Caiden Rexius led the Roadrunners with 21 digs.

With the grand offensive performance, MSU Denver has made history in two straight matches. Last time out, the Roadrunners held Black Hills State to the lowest hitting percentage for an opponent since 2011 (-.083).

While Glenn was thoroughly pleased with her team's performance, the Roadrunners are locked in on tomorrow's rematch at the Chicoine Center in Chadron.

"We will reflect on this match, make adjustments, and be ready to compete again tomorrow," Glenn said.

The rematch between the two schools, set for 6 p.m. MST tomorrow evening, will end the regular season for both.
