@MSUDenverMBB: Roadrunners Upset on 3-pointer at the OT Buzzer

MSU Denver suffers another close loss

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota School of Mines & Technology's Troy Brady sank a 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer Friday night to stun MSU Denver and lift the Hardrockers to a 70-67 victory.

"Give all the credit to South Dakota Mines," MSU Denver coach Michael Bahl said. "They made it very difficult tonight, and at the end of the day they just made one or two more plays than us."

Metropolitan State University of Denver's season of close calls continued, as the Roadrunners (8-10 overall, 6-8 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) dropped to 1-3 in overtime games. They have lost seven games by six points or less, including five in league play.

Garrett Carter (Rialto, Calif./Etiwanda) had scored with five seconds left to tie the game, but South Dakota Mines (9-13, 6-8) responded quickly and scored the game winner.

MSU Denver had forced the overtime as Jaryn Taylor (Yucaipa, Calif./Yucaipa) rebounded his own missed shot and scored with 15 seconds left to forge a 60-60 tie.

Carter led the Roadrunners with 20 points, while Kendall McIntosh (Oakley, Calif./Freedom) had 15 before fouling out late in regulation. Taylor had 12 points and seven rebounds, while Druce Asah (Tracy, Calif./Tracy) scored 11. Elijah Straughter (Fresno, Calif./Clovis North) had six points while pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds.

Twice in the second half the Roadrunners led by eight points, including a 46-38 advantage with 11:17 to play. But the Hardrockers scratched their way back into it. Overall the lead changed hands 18 times and there were 10 ties.

MSU Denver trailed by as many as six points in the first half, but took a 29-28 lead into halftime on a 3-pointer by Marcus Jefferson (Lewisville, Texas/Lewisville) with eight seconds to go.

The Roadrunners are back in action on the road again Saturday night at 6 p.m. against Black Hills State (10-8, 9-5).

"We have been in a lot of close games this season and we have made a lot of games harder than they have to be, and it's all a part of the process," Bahl said. "However, no one takes these losses lightly and you'd better bet that we will be ready to play tomorrow night."
