DENVER – The Coaches' Corner, the weekly live show of MSU Denver, airs from Tivoli Tap House on the Auraria campus on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball head coach Tanya Haave, indoor track and field head coach Janis Christopher and senior Erica Ruiz (Rohnert Park, Calif./Rancho Cotate) (Rohnert Park, Calif./Rancho Cotate) will be on the mic during the show.
The Roadrunners swept their weekend slate after a pair of home wins against Black Hills State and South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. Defense was key in the Roadrunners' victory over Black Hills State, holding the Yellow Jackets below 40 percent in both field-goal percentage and 3-point field-goal percentage. Senior point guard Jaelynn Smith (Denver, Colo./East) (Denver, Colo./East) played the entire 40 minutes and led the Roadrunners with her 17 points in the win.
MSU Denver closed out the weekend with a 12-point triumph over the Hardrockers, which was highlighted by the 23-point effort by senior forward Emily Hartegan (Wylie, Texas/Wylie East). The victory brought the Roadrunners above .500 overall (13-12) and maintained their tie for fourth in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play.
The Roadrunners play this weekend on Friday at New Mexico Highlands and Saturday at Colorado State University-Pueblo.
Christopher's indoor track and field teams will be headed to the RMAC Championships, hosted by Adams State, on Friday and Saturday. The Roadrunners competed in the Colorado School of Mines Triangular over the weekend with the men and women finishing second and third, respectively.
Ruiz finished second in the women's mile, contributing a finishing time of 5 minutes, 11.82 seconds. Her season-best time in the event is an NCAA Division II Championships provisional-qualifying time of 4:56.47, which she earned at the Colorado Running Company Mountain Lion Open on Feb. 8. She also has a season-best time in the 3,000 meters of 10:21.86, which she recorded at the Chadron State College Open on Jan. 20 in a race she won.
On the men's side at the Colorado School of Mines Triangular, freshman Nick Nowlen (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) won the 800 in 1:56.59 while junior Nikolas Polite (Sacramento, Calif./Matanzas) (Sacramento, Calif./Matanzas) came away with a second-place finish in the men's 60 (7.11) and a third-place result in the men's 200 (23.62).
The Coaches' Corner, which is produced by Eric Lansing, will continue weekly throughout the collegiate sports season. The show is set for 5:30 p.m. every Monday. The general public is welcome to attend while enjoying food and drinks at the Tivoli Tap House.
